Andres' 3dmm Folder - 02-23-2004

Andres' 3dmm Folder

http://lord_of_the_flies_3d.tripod.com/folder.htm

This is what it sounds like it is. My 3dmm folder. Of course, it's not exactly like my 3dmm folder. I removed all the really, really unfinished files, as well as all the unfinished movies that were already available in my unfinished movie compilations I and II. So, what is this? It's just a bunch of stupid animations, tests, or experiments. It's nowhere near as "finished" as my unfinished compilation (which was unfinished). Some of this is old (I think the oldest is April 2001), and some of it is pretty new. Most notably, however, is that I've made available all the movies I'm working on right now. You guys know I barely finish anything, and since I'm probably quitting 3dmm pretty soon, i don't have much hope of finishing these. So, give it a peek.

Old Crap features the following files:
- a detective story.3mm
- scream bloody gore.3mm
- 3dmm skillz.3mm
- survive.3mm
- 9-11.3mm

Random Shit features the following files:
- ex.3mm
- the history of the universe.3mm
- drama.3mm
- sku.3mm
- gang.3mm
- last movie.3mm
- f121.3mm
- hmaidstale.3mm
- fight.3mm
- untitled city drama.3mm
- scenes.3mm
- satanik - preview.3mm
- uh.3mm
- hero.3mm
- logo.3mm
- king kong.3mm
- space invasion.3mm
- undertaker.3mm
- android.3mm
- the warrior - scenes
- donquijote.3mm

note: some of this requires the doraemon pack.

Work In Progress features the following files:

- fantasy(zorn).3mm
- satanik.3mm
- piraterevenge.3mm
- whiteclad.3mm

note: some of this requires the most recent expansion pack.

Knock yourselves out.

note: if you want to put this in a site or whatever, compile it into one zip file.

I haven't been through the whole thing, but what I've seen was pretty entertaining. Satanik was, of course, the best of what's here; you really nailed the comic book panel feel for it. I can only imagine how long it took to plot each scene so the panels would move correctly, and it just never stops being inventive. The constant shifting of where the non-black space would be was a bit distracting at times -- I'd probably make several shots longer so as not to lose the audience's eye -- but it'll be interesting to see what Jordi will do with this if he IS taking over.

I had thought some of Andres's comments in the Pirates thread were a little strange sounding. Now I know why. The ship design and some of the angles on this project were really cool.

The History of the Universe made me laugh. Repeatedly. It looks like early work for you; I imagine if it was made recently, it would have been several times harsher. Then again, you DID make a comedy recently. Either way, I loved it.

It's good to see that there was a practical application of the Manifesto planned out -- I never thought the document itself was very useful, but this was well-made and highly informative. Considering how many people are obsessed with making action scenes in which many people are shot, I think everyone should watch this clip. It turns out the rambling man really does know what he's talking about.

Finally, I don't know if I'm the only one who noticed this, but the Zorn movie felt like a metaphor for how Andres relates to the community. Obviously, he didn't CREATE the community, but lines like"ahhh... there's little to amuse me in this world anymore. these creatures and their slowness, their dimwitted nature, their lack of anything even moderately entertaining or challenging... I'm going to have to create some entertainment for myself."immediately made me think of a lot of Andres's time spent on the board. Or like I've told Goro, maybe I'm just sniffing too much Redux. The "Personally, I found it hilarious," line is classic Andres, however.

If you have even a passing interest in Andres's work, I'd highly recommend you check this out. Even his own work doesn't live up to the high standards he sets for movies, but he isn't regarded as one of the best directors in the community for nothing.

I dunno what's happening with Satanik either, but I really like some of the unique cell-shifting moments and of course, the retro colouring.

Well, I guess you could see it as that, hadn't thought about my own "God complex". It's more of a "hi, i'm an angry atheist" movie. and as it goes on (i'll try and finish it), it becomes a "hi, i think humanity is hopeless" movie.

Anyway, thanks for the review. TAKE THE HINT, EVERYBODY ELSE.

I'll check out the other stuff in here soon and reply with more comments.

well I only had time to watch half of it or so, but what I saw was really impressive. It's a shame a lot of it will never get finished. It sucks that you started a Don Quijote movie because the first two or so scenes were well done, and the movie itself would have been really interesting to watch.

I tried to watch the longer stuff so I'd actually have something to say. My favorite was the History of the Universe. I especially liked the choice of music (yay outkast!), and I was a little bit surprised at times. I'm not saying that not saying that all I would expect from you is metal, but Justin Timberlake caught me off guard. nice touch. the movie itself had me laughing, which is pretty rare for a 3dmm movie. I can only think of a handful where I've actually laughed at them.

The animation in pirates is awesome. the ship design in particular was very impressive. The different angles you used really helps capture the scene.

during Zorn, I was thinking the exact same thing as Aaron. once again, you chose the music well.

and satanik...well what can I say? It's wonderful. I don't really remember specifics about it that I should mention, but I'll rewatch it again sometime within the next few days and edit in comments or something.

I'll come back to this; I'm too tired to finish right now.

Great stuff. For myself, Satanik was definitely the stand-out. D3mons has a similar comic-strip/book-type feel to it, but it's nowhere near as elaborate as Satanik's intro. Music and pacing were great too.

I guess I will watch these eventually.....

but one of your folders has like 25 .3mm files.

no fuckin way I'm watching all 25!

I guess I'll just randomly select some to watch. But for sure I'll check out Satanik.

That was really sweet, love the comic book style in Satanik. I'd love to see that Pirate-movie finished as well, it's such an unused concept in 3DMM. Review up at EP.
