DO NOT leave all of your installed expansions active!

Since there isn't a thread addressing this, or there isn't a thread I found that does, I'd thought I would put this out there to hopefully prevent it from happening continuously. This tends to be a reoccurring issue with newcomers who's never used V3dmm before, and try to upload movies onto the forums. Chances are, they either downloaded a ton of mods or downloaded a ton of movies with a ton of mods. Whenever they boot up V3dmm manager, they usually choose to activate every installed mod they have, make their movie with all of those mods conveniently at their disposal, mostly without using all of the mods they have activated, and then save their movie this way, thinking nothing of it. When they open their movie up in manager, it would look something like this:

If you are guilty of this, cut that habit out ASAP! You need to activate only the mods you plan on using for your movie (this even includes the expansions, if you have no intention of using them, do not activate them). If you're making your movie, and you decided there was a MOD(s) you wanted to use that isn't active, then you need to save your movie, exit 3dmm, go back to the V3dmm manager, and make that MOD(s) active.

The reason for this is it jacks up the filesize of your movie to an unnessary amount. It doesn't matter how good your movie is, if your movie is 200MB or something like that, when you only used 5 or so MODs in a 2 minute movie, not only no one will download it, but those who do choose to open that movie up will now have all the MODs you accumulated stored into their collection, like a parasite.

If you already made a movie with all of your installed MOD's activated, don't worry, it is an easy fix. You want to go back and check all of the MOD's you used in your movie:

Once you figure it out, go back into manager, highlight every MOD in the active expansions box that you did NOT use, and click the box with the arrows pointing towards the installed expansions box:

When you finish, the active expansions box should look like this, neatly presenting all the MOD's you actually used in your movie:

At that point, go into file, and click Save Movie. Your movie should now be detoxed of every unused MOD. Be sure to double check your movie. If you removed a MOD that was used in your movie, you will get an error like this:

It will tell you which MODS you left out, so it is safe to overcorrect yourself. Just find the missing MOD, make it active, and save. It's that easy!

Okay, PSA over. Happy animating, newcomer!

wish I had a guide like this when I first started using v3dmm!
Because going in afterwards and trying to delete all the unused mods is a pain

Yeah, that's a pretty good idea for limiting mods. Great job

yeah this thread is a good idea, people getting this wrong causes me lots of headaches when I'm mirroring stuff. I'll probably add a condensed version of this to the "READ THIS BEFORE POSTING YOUR EXPANSIONS" (that no one reads). thanks!

We all make mistakes. Even I made this error in the beginning. What matters is we learn from them.

Speaking of mistakes, didn't realize I made a typo till you replied. Lol.

Wait, i think i got it. Now i can upload my VMM movie without any unwanted expansion (Except for the park and Augustin Burger scenes, because i suck at math sometimes).

Whenever I try to remove the mods I didn't use, instead of it loading normally, it treats EVERY mod as if I used them all in the movie, which I didn't. Any fixes?

I mean, you actually just did turn the image into a link by uploading it to imgur. Right click, view image, and you look at the URL. That is the image as a link, lol.

Anyways, when you remove all of the MODS you did not use, you got to save using the v3dmm manager. pull down the file menu, and click save movie. Play the movie again. If you removed a MOD that was in the movie, the movie will lock up and stop playing (the program will not crash, but the scene of which the MOD is used cannot be viewed properly). In that case, you will want to go back to the manager, find the MOD you left out, add it back in, and save.
