Annoying 3dmm problem on Windows 10?

This has probably been addressed somewhere but I'm just gonna ask.

Ok so when I grab/move objects in 3DMM, it occasionally "jumps" and the object is like a foot away from where I grabbed it. This is really annoying when I'm only trying to move things a millimetre.

Is there a solution or did we figure out what's causing this maybe?

Are you using it in a VM?

No I don’t think so?

I’m using like... the 3dmm install exe that came with v3dmm and n3dmm and doraemon and all that stuff?

Is that VM? I’m using it within my normal OS

In fact the 3dmm window is like 1/6th my screen size, which is kind of ridiculous.

..Am I using it in VM?

no you're not. you can get fullscreen to work through one of the menus in v3dmm, in vanilla 3dmm it stopped working with XP I think

No, it doesn't sound like you're using a VM. Are you using a touch screen? That can also cause this issue.

Ok Lohr helped me find a turnaround by running 3dmm in Windows 95 compatible mode.

What's annoying now is I have to tab out completely to get to any other program, but oh well, at least it's fully screen.

it defaults to fullscreen in win9x mode.
do ctrl-shift-I and select "windowed" from the options.

There's a checkbox for the same in v3dmm.

So I noticed after the recent major Windows 10 update (I believe it was the Fall Creators one?) that I now have this strange "jumping" problem as well.

I don't have a modern install of win10 set up at the moment cause it's HUGE but I'll hook one up so I can try to debug this.

The object-moving has always been one of the hackiest parts of 3dmm, it screws up really badly with VirtualBox's mouse integration for example.

I did some searching and found a video where someone is having similar issues inside the Unreal Editor (also after getting the Fall Creators Update).

This must mean that the fault is with the update itself?

I complained about this on twitter, and someone pointed out that SDL has had to deal with this problem too:

SDL Bug report
SDL discussion on the issue

Sadly the way they fixed it seems to be SDL-specific. There's supposedly a MS bug report, but even with my developer account, I can't see it.

I haven't set up a modern win10 build yet to test, but can someone try turning off "game DVR" and see if that fixes it?

Instructions here: https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffen...s_input_delay/

Disabling Game DVR has no effect. (And it appears that this feature is now turned off by default with the later updates.)

From the chrome bug:
Quote:
We contacted Microsoft regarding this and it appears there is a bug in the Fall Creators update that causes the OS not to generate a WM_MOUSEMOVE after a SetCursor call. They indicated that it will be fixed for the next major release.

Given the difficulty in patching 3DMM and the non-simple nature of this patch, plus the fact they're supposedly fixing it soon, I'm just gonna say "wait it out". Sorry!

If you really need to have smooth movement in 3DMM until then, I recommend running it in a VM. VirtualBox + XP is pretty simple and easy.

I mean I don't need it immediately at all, I was just wondering if there was some quick fix that somebody found/knew of. But that's good to hear that it could be patched soon.

Any chance you can tell me WTF Fall Creators is?

It's just the name of the latest Windows 10 service pack. Rather than SP2 or SP3 they call it "Fall Creators Pack" cause art or something.
