Nice! I'd played a bit with doing this sort of thing, but never got to the point where I could fix the UI to make it usable. I'm gonna have to do this exact thing to do my render-in-higher-res trick for 3dmm.tv, though.

I could possibly work on getting the ui elements moved. The only real thing problematic right now is that I have to go in and edit every background/z buffer manually to match the viewport size, else you'll only see a whole lot of garbage and a crash when you hit play.

Foone, do you know if it would be possible to scale the backgrounds and z buffers at runtime, with some function replacing magic of some sort?

Here's my first test recording of an actual movie.

Known Issues:
Font sizes aren't scaling properly in some cases.

Wow, that looks fantastic. Does it work with v3dmm? I'd like to see something with a lot of large custom textures get this treatment.

Possibly. I'm not sure where exactly you'd inject, and the way it generates new backgrounds/zbuffers at runtime (to cache unmoving objects) would definitely screw with it.

This'd be real nice. If we could get this to work with 3dmmFPS I'd be a real happy boy.

Not easily. I did test doing that for my higher-res test, but 3dmm allocates some additional buffers at runtime as an optimization. It pre-renders all props that don't move, and just uses that as the "background" for the scene.

So scaling that was tricky, I could never figure out where it was being allocated. I'll have to dive into it at some point.

PS: Could you push a new version of the socrates library? I'd like to see the rest of the decompression implementation.

Don't you guys have trouble playing around with the guts of 3dmm on newer systems? Or do you use on older rig especially for it? This stuff may as well be witchcraft to me but its still interesting to read about it.

I have multiple old XP machines for the 3dmm.tv autoconverting (which I still haven't set up at my new place, *sigh*) but most of my work happens inside an XP VM.

Could 3dmm ever run on a tablet or mobile device? Touch screen 3dmm would be fun.

If they could get powerful enough to emulate it or something

You can get a windows tablet for about 100$. They can run it. I bought one (well, two) in order to implement multi-touch into 3dmm, but I haven't made any progress on that.
