Israel is a terrorist state.

http://english.aljazeera.net/news/mi...451509662.html

Let's just get that out of the way right now.

To be honest I don't know the serious details about this conflict, but you constantly hear each side claiming the other as the 'terrorists' and I honestly don't know which side has more credibility at this point, all I know is that Israel has more fire power. Unlike most topics it seems harder to find an unbiased viewpoint about this subject. It just seems like a never ending ending game of attack & retaliation, neither side willing to bend whatsoever. obviously this particular situation has Israel looking like the bad guy, but are they equally violent towards each other based on previous conflicts? Does Israel have a bigger responsibility to solve the conflict?

It's a little hard to talk about "sides" but certainly Palestinians deserve a lot more than they get.

Israel has been blocking access in the Gaza Strip to journalists, food cargos, medicine cargos, plus resources like gas and electricity are extremely limited. They've been oppressing the shit out of Gaza for a long time and this has hardly gotten any coverage whatsoever on mainstream American media. Then Barak has the nerve to say "they can't live in terror anymore" because Hamas understandably threw some rockets that killed like one person. It's immensely hypocritical to complain about living in terror while denying people food and medicine, let alone killing two hundred people in retaliation for a few rockets that killed more Palestinians than Israelis.

It's absurd that the situation is presented in American media as "Hamas broke a truce", since not only did Israel attack first, but the conditions of this truce are invalidated by the fact that the siege had the Palestinians in Gaza living like animals.

A number of governments and international officials, including leaders of Russia, Egypt, the European Union and the United Nations, condemned Israel’s use of force and also called on Hamas to end the rocket fire. But in strong terms, the Bush administration blamed Hamas for the violence and demanded that it stop firing rockets.

sure it's not exactly a great cast of faces but yeah

Those results are not surprising since the overwhelming majority of people voting have no idea that Israel has been blocking access to Gaza and has let dozens of people literally die on the borders because they refuse to let them get to a hospital.

Oddly enough, I agree with Andres.

Anyway, I'm reserving judgement on this one - I feel that I'm getting heavily biased reporting from different sources.

The media in Australia seems to be focusing on the blood letting rather than the reasoning behind it - it's weird to have neutral reporting for once.

The American Political Consensus on Israel (Glenn Greenwald)

I don't understand the depth, origins, and scale of this conflict to a degree where I'm comfortable commenting on it. But I intensely dislike the tendency of our political leaders to openly and universally embrace Israel, without criticism of any kind. I will be extremely disappointed if Barack Obama has nothing new or nuanced to say about this.

“The first job of any nation state is to protect its citizens. And so I can assure you that if -- I don't even care if I was a politician. If somebody was sending rockets into my house where my two daughters sleep at night, I'm going to do everything in my power to stop that. And I would expect Israelis to do the same thing.”
- Barack Obama
