there's one about how capitalism didn't cause the new deal.

even the most rabid laissez faire follower would agree that the depression, regardless of whether it was caused by government intervention or market forces, is a CAPITALIST problem since it happens in a CAPITALIST society

but no, this doesn't stop this guy.

By all means, explain my beliefs about Muslims. I'd love to hear a nice objective analysis of what exists inside my head.

For real Andres...you're a smart guy, and I respect you and your opinions. But the personal attacks really make you look like a dick.

between these assholes and robert corsi, i don't even understand the value of a PhD in american intellectual society anymore.

seriously, a PhD reduced to writing shitty sensationalist rags about how capitalism cures racism? is a PhD worth less than shit these days?

Capitalism has the potential to do more social good, and faster, than federal programs, if business owners actually considered their corporations to be able to enact social change and better society in addition to turning a profit. Like some of the philanthropic models of the early 20th century, the market doesn't have to only be about economic progress. There was a pretty decent TIME article about this recently, documenting some of the not-for-profit humanitarian and social efforts corporations have done since America's founding.

Unfortunately, this responsibility is almost entirely ignored and exists primarily in the fantasies of people like this author. Though I suspect a lot of the people who insist the free market can solve all social problems actually just thinks that it's not anyone else's responsibility to solve real social problems (hence they aren't really "problems").

why isn't anyone bringing fiction into this thread? Why do all the books listed have to be either satire or (personal) manifestos?

because i spot shitty books when i'm browsing the non-fiction sections only.

speaking of which, it's august. heath ledger died in january. there's no good fucking reason why there have to exist TWO books in the market detailing his "beautiful life and tragic death" (thats the name of one book). that's more like "worst profession ever", having to write hack books about celebrities/historical figures that just died/became popular.

Wow Whitey, you lucky son of a bitch. Looks like Andres is willing to forgive your sins! I think you have some serious foot-kissing to do.

Aaron, you completely fail to understand the concept of what a business's goals are and ought to be.

You'd be surprised about how many celebrities in their physical prime/youth have biographies waiting to go upon their death. Same for TV documentaries. Someone will spend their life writing and waiting for someone else's life to end so they can get rich.

Eh I won't stop until I can see the logic of your arguments. So far I haven't. You're more persistent than I am, more abusive than I am, and more popular here than I am which is why everyone thinks your arguments are better. I'm not an unreasonable guy. If you come up with convincing arguments, I'll accept them; I'm not a mouthpiece for some rigid concept. But I just haven't found anything you've been saying to be convincing, from an objective standpoint.
