2008 Presidential Election Poll (GE Version)

Somehow I don't think the results from this crowd are going to be all that surprising, but we haven't had one since the Democratic Primary ended, so I thought it'd be interesting to discuss.

(Optional secondary question: Who'd be a good VP choice for your candidate?)

Honestly, I think Gore would make a fine VP for Obama. He's somehow developed a personality in 8 years.

Isn't there a way we can appoint a giant bowl of Jello?

We already elected a giant bag of scum, I'm not sure how filling it with Jello will improve things.

I would vote for Ralph Nader, if it wouldn't be a risk that it could cost Obama's victory.

Perceived "elitism", in that he's not an alcoholic pretend cowboy who's just like me.

Some people believe he's a crypto-Muslim who doesn't recite the pledge of allegiance. (morons. Morons believe that.)

And the argument could be made that his optimistic vision for America in the 21st century is too naive and misguided to amount to practical solutions, foreign or domestic. I'm a little skeptical about his promises to bridge the ebb and flow of partisan divide we've had for the past 20-30 years, but a) a strong Democratic majority in the Senate and House is a fine workaround for me, and b) if his administration is even half as competently run as his campaign has been, I think he'll be able to follow through.

my dad doesn't like him because he's full of just a bunch of hype and hooey

real reason: republicans are grasping at straws because they have a relatively moral, charismatic democrat and all they have is mccain and they cannot stand the idea of being impotent and not being able to run over whoever the hell they want

edit: i actually don't like obama that much to be honest but will vote for him since he's, well, not mccain

I don't like his stance on energy/drilling. McCain wants to start building nuclear power plants immediately...so I'm a fan of that.

Yeah it's kind of weird. We already get a bunch of energy from nuclear power, plus it's clean and a lot safer than it used to be. I don't understand the objection to it really.

I think our government has been trying to do the same (at least in Ontario) and a bunch of people think there's going to be another Chernobyl...

I kind of doubt it will be his top priority.

And he thinks gas tax holidays and offshore drilling are going to do a damn thing.

Maybe not top priority, but he's been talking about it a lot and wants to build a bunch of them by the year 2030.

And I don't think the idea of a gas tax holiday is horrible. No one's saying it will solve anything, it will just provide people some relief.

Funny story though...the Democrats clearly oppose instituting a gas tax holiday, and yet since March people working for the Democratic National Convention Committee in Colorado have been filling up with city pumps that are free of state and federal gas taxes. In other words, people working on the convention, who are NOT government or city workers, but rather workers of a non-profit organization have pumped $10,000 worth of gas tax-free. In other words, they have had a GAS TAX HOLIDAY.

So these guys working in Colorado for the Democrats get tax free gas, but the American people aren't allowed that luxury. Allowing families to save 5 or 6 bucks when they fill up so they can spend cash on the other bare necessities would be nice. And luckily the hypocrites in Denver are getting billed for the taxes they skirted, since they were caught last week. Pricks.
