7gen For Dummies - Bmp2vxp

Bmp2vxp - Create 3D word textures from BMP/JPG/PNG
Click on the dark grey 'bmp2vxp' button to the right.
The bmp2vxp window opens.
In the CFG settings tab, there are the following input fields: Expansion name, Author name, Orig. Author name, Shortname and some display text Filename
- Expansion name: This will be the name of your expansion.
- Author name: This is your name. The editor of the expansion.
- Orig. Author name: This is the name of the person who made the picture.
- Shortname: This is the name of the VXP! To make things easy, name this the same as the Expansion name (seen above). The vxp will be created in the location where 7gen was installed. Please read this before making a name for your Expansion
- Filename: Displays what you typed in the Shortname field.

In the Images tab, there is a list of all of the pictures in the 7gen folder. You can scroll down the list by clicking on the list and then using your 'up' and 'down' keys to scroll. Alternatively, you can use the mouse by using the scroll bar on the right hand side or use the wheel on your mouse.
- Refresh list button: This button reloads the list with any additional images that were added to the 7gen folder since bmp2vxp was opened.
- Dither image checkbox: This is checked as the default. (not sure what this means, help me out someone)

In the 3dmm IDs tab, there is an input box and a couple of buttons.
- ID: This is where the ID for your expansion will be placed. (see Generate ID button)
- Generate ID button: Click on this button to automatically generate an ID for your Expansion.
- Get ID from 3dmm2.com: This button no longer functions. It takes you to a website that no longer exsists.

In the Contol tab, there is a long bar, stretching from one side of the window to the next, a check box 'Install VXP' and a buton 'Create VXP'.
- Loading bar: This is the progress of the 'Generation' process. (see Create VXP button). Once the blue bar reaches the right-hand side, the generation is complete. The vxp created in the 7gen folder.
- Install VXP checkbox: If this is checked, when the vxp is created, it is automatically installed into V3dmm. The default is unchecked, which means you have to manually install the vxp.
- Create VXP button: Click on this button once all of the above data has been entered/tweaked. You are now moments away from using your new 3d word texture.

Dithering means it will apply a filter when converting to the 3dmm palette.
Typically going between palettes it will choose the closest color.
Dithering means if it can't find a close colour, it will use two or more and speckle the colours together to make a match.

This is that crosshatch pattern you see on some textures.

so... this is how Aaron Haynes and cowtacular spleen did mean bread? And how HMC did stickman's halloween adventure (sorry I got mixed up)
How do you make the background transparent?

Demented Ferret and Cowtacular Spleen did Mean Bread. I did Stickman. Anyway, 3DMM will replace the color Magenta (#ff00ff, the default pink color in paint) with transparency.

Is there any that I can make my own Dings/Fonts? Cause the only way I saw any trace of the creation of Superdings was that there was a 3cn in the expansion pack.

Might as well bring this up, I'm trying to create a texture for the flat tile font of a hand, I use the pink color (Like you see when you open an actors textures for 7gen) and cover all the area I want to be transparent. When I open it up in v3dmm, there are tiny pink dots everywhere - what do I do to fix it?

It has to be a bmp and not a jpeg for transparency.

It won't work if you just save the existing jpeg as a bmp

Nice job, Marko. If the image itself is/was ever a JPEG, you will have to delete the negative areas BY HAND. As in, use the eraser tool and carve all around the positive space (the image you want to keep). Then make the background the proper magenta and it will work if saved as a .bmp

If anybody wants to edit the original post:

Dithering means it will apply a filter when converting to the 3dmm palette.
Typically going between palettes it will choose the closest color.
Dithering means if it can't find a close colour, it will use two or more and speckle the colours together to make a match.

This is that crosshatch pattern you see on some textures.

I don't think you can. Each BMP is its own mod/vxp.
